Penn Charter Performing Arts Center- Philadelphia, Pa.

Client: E. Allen Reeves
Project: Provide 300 tons of structural steel for a new LEED®-certified performing arts center
Services provided: Detailing, connection design, fabrication, erection
Industry: Institutional
Project turnaround: 8 months

JGM provided all of the steel fabrication and erection services needed for the new preforming arts center. This project had many complexities consisting of logistical issues working around an operating school, through coordinating with the MEP, audio-visual, and stage contractors. With the use of BIM modeling, we were able to identify several interferences up front before the steel hit the site, saving time and money. Our project manager would spend many days with the project team reviewing the issues and ensuring that we resolved any issues in a timely and cost-effective manner. The steel design called for many of the 40-foot-tall vertical columns on the stage to be erected along with the grout-filled masonry wall. Our erection crews and the masonry contractor worked hand-in-hand to develop a plan so that both trades could work efficiently and safely while still maintaining the project schedule. This project was completed with zero injuries.
